Eligibility Criteria for Admission

Eligibility Criteria for Admission

Basic Qualification

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent Diploma from a recognized university/institution with minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA/Grade.
  • Candidates with M.Phil. (minimum 55%) are eligible even if Master’s marks are below 55%, provided the M.Phil. admission was through an entrance examination.

Relaxation to 50% (any one condition)

  • SC/ST or Cat-I candidates.
  • In-service candidates with at least 5 years of regular experience in teaching, library, physical education, or laboratory roles in educational institutions.
  • Candidates who completed their Master’s degree before 19 Sept 1991.

Entrance Test (University of Mysore)

  • One paper | 100 marks | 3 hours duration.
  • Syllabus based on UGC/CSIR-NET pattern.
  • Question Format:
    • 50 objective questions (1 mark each).
    • Short answer/essay type questions (50 marks).
  • Interdisciplinary research aspirants take a general paper set by the Inter/Multidisciplinary Board.
  • Minimum marks required:
    • 55/100 for General candidates.
    • 50/100 for SC/ST/Cat-I candidates.

Interview/Viva Voce

Candidates who qualify the Entrance Test must appear before a probable guide. The interview evaluates:

  • Competence for the proposed research.
  • Feasibility of research at XIME/affiliated institutions.
  • Potential to contribute to new/additional knowledge

Note: Clearing the entrance and interview does not guarantee admission; it only confirms eligibility.

Validity & Certification

  • Results declared by the Registrar (Evaluation), University of Mysore.
  • Successful candidates receive an Eligibility Certificate, valid for 1 year (till the next entrance notification).

Exemptions from Entrance Test

  • Qualified in UGC/CSIR JRF, NET, SLET, GATE.
  • Completed/joined M.Phil. through an entrance examination.
  • Such candidates must still appear for an interview before a guide and secure acceptance, subject to availability of vacancies.

Financials

  • Stipend: Full-time research scholars are eligible for stipend as per XIME rules.
  • Fees: Ph.D. candidates are required to pay the prescribed fees of both XIME and the University of Mysore.
